Traditionally, poker is a card game that involves a player making a bet on a hand. This bet may be made with real money or by using plastic chips. In some forms of the game, the first bettor to make a bet is obligated to make that bet. In other forms, the player who bets the most is said to raise, and other players must match. Often, a poker table has a center for each player’s chips, which are placed in front of the table. The center is where all the betting occurs.
The pot is the total amount of money bet in the game. A poker hand is a combination of five cards. The best possible hand is three of a kind, but any two or more of the other hands are considered strong. A pair of aces is the lowest pair, while a straight is a pair of sevens or higher. A high-low splits the pot equally. It is also possible for different players to win the main pot. If all players make a bet, then the highest-ranking hand wins.
The player with the highest-ranking hand is the first bettor, and he is said to “bet.” A bet is usually a chip or real money. The amount of the bet is usually set before the hand is dealt. If the player is required to make a contribution to the pot before the deal, this is called an ante. Unless the players agree to a fixed-limit game, the amount of the bet is not limited.

If the bettor is called, he will receive all of the chips in the pot. If the bettor is raised, he will receive all of the chips that were not bet before he was raised.
A draw is when a player has a full hand but has to discard part of it. This can be used to make a bluff. In other forms of the game, a player who has two pairs of aces will win the pot if the other two players do not have a pair. Similarly, a player who has three of a kind will win the pot if the other two have pairs.
